What Dads are saying…

Director Thomas Pfanner with his son Charles

Hi, my name is Thomas Pfanner,

I quit my job as a public educator to equip Dads to give their kids the connection and skills that makes the true difference in their kids’ life.

I’ve had my scars from the journey of fatherhood. Until a few years ago, my relationship with my teenage son was a daily struggle.

I would spend the night lying wide away questioning where I had taken a wrong turn. His body language and actions made it clear: He was pulling away from me as a leader.

I was frustrated because I knew his potential, but I wasn’t able to connect with him. I wasn’t able to be the guide for him I knew he needed. I was scared that my son would become a high school dropout, leaving our family and my marriage in ruins.

This changed when I discovered the power of transforming our connection through a common adventure.

A New Approach, with Old Roots…

In 2021, we launched our first Father-Son Retreat program to create a powerful transformation for Dads and their sons throughout the Pacific Northwest.

I’ve heard many Dads talk about wanting to improve their connection with their kids… But few are action-takers who are willing to invest their time learning, growing and exploring side by side with their son.

I want to personally invite you to join us this Summer on the adventure of a lifetime. As we launch our fourth year of events, returning families have claimed several spots already. We pride ourselves on impacting every family that goes through our program. Availability is extremely limited. If you’re ready to rewrite the story, take action and apply for your spot today. I look forward to talking soon.

All the best,

“It’s formed a bond like we’ve never had before.”

What is the Play to Win Expereince?

Less talk. More Action.

We fundamentally believe that men do not grow by talking across the kitchen table. We forge ourselves through taking action and overcoming challenges. This event is engineered for men who are willing to drop into adventure and lift up those around them.

There are only three ways to play the game of life:

  • Refusing to Play

  • Playing Not to Lose

  • Playing to Win

I want to see young men and women rise up to be strong, convicted men and women. I spent seven years as a public educator and I chose to leave because “the system” conditions kids to “play not to lose.” I begin to see kids’ spirits, creativity and identity being lost to conformity. Being lost to the mindset of: “Play it safe and follow the rules.”

Sadly these habits set young men up for failure. Though many kids are skilled in completing tasks for others, few sharpen the skill of harnessing their inner drive and the ability to lead themselves. Ultimately, the ability to be independent.

The numbers have been hidden from you…

Adults 18-29 live at home with their parents.

2020 US Census Data

I believe as men we are called to lead! We are at our best when we are the main character, writing our own story. To understand the mission that God has called us to and take action accordingly.

The “Play to Win Experience” is designed for young men and their fathers to gain clarity in their purpose, the obstacles we face as men, and the action necessary to win in the game of life.

“Life’s a Game. Play to Win.”

Purpose. Grit. Adventure.

Day 1 - On Your Purpose

On the first day, we kick things off with an outdoor adventure such as paintball, whitewater rafting or rock climbing. Adventure is at the root of everything we do. #1 It’s fun. #2 It’s how we connect as men. On the first day, we focus on setting a set our fix. Expect to answer the question: Exactly where am heading as a man and why does it matter?

Day 2 - The Obstacle

Following day two adventures, we will connect each physical challenge to an obstacle we face as men. Before we can conquer any problem we must first understand it. Our goal is never to glorify problems, but rather to look deep at the cause and result of the problems we face. But most importantly how we can overcome them as men in the 21st century.

Day 3 - the Road Ahead

The culmination of the weekend is always a powerful experience. Each man will take a closer look at where he is, where he wants to go and what stands in his way. Through the final adventure you and your son will uncover the actions you need to take to write the story you desire. Now you have a choice: stay on the path of the status quo or join us for the adventure of a lifetime! The choice is in your hands…
